Why solar pays off in Georgia right now

In Adjara, 1 kW of installed panels produces 1,200–1,400 kWh a year; in Eastern Georgia, up to 1,500. With a residential tariff of 25–31 tetri and a rising tiered scale (the more you use, the more each kilowatt-hour costs), a 5 kW system covers the bill of a typical house and pays for itself in 4–6 years. After that, 20 years of free electricity.

The key factor is the net metering rules. Today, the surplus your system feeds into the grid during the day is credited one-to-one against your night-time consumption, and this arrangement is locked in until 2033 for everyone connected before 1 January 2027. From 2027, new systems move to net billing, where the surplus is bought back at a lower price. If you are considering solar, it pays to connect within the next year.

Systems we install

  • Grid-tie (on-grid): panels plus a grid-tie inverter. The lowest cost per kW; works only when the grid is up. For homes with a reliable power supply and net metering.
  • Hybrid: panels, a hybrid inverter and a LiFePO4 battery. By day it powers the house and charges the battery, in the evening it uses the stored energy, and during a power cut it keeps selected circuits running. Given the outages in Batumi, this is the most popular option.
  • Off-grid: for plots with no grid connection, such as mountain houses, farms and sites far from power lines.
  • Commercial, 30–500 kW: roofs of hotels, workshops and warehouses, parking canopies. For businesses with daytime consumption, payback is 3–4 years.

Equipment

Jinko, Longi and JA Solar panels (monocrystalline 550–600 W, 25-year power output warranty); Deye, Huawei, Solis and Growatt inverters; Deye, Pylontech and Dyness LiFePO4 batteries (6,000+ cycles).

Scope of work

What solar system installation includes

Survey and sizing

Site visit, roof assessment (orientation, pitch, shading, load-bearing capacity), analysis of 12 months of bills, choice of system size and type, payback calculation in two scenarios.

Design

Panel layout, single-line diagram, specification, mounting calculation for wind load (mandatory on the coast), document package for the DSO.

Supply

Panels, inverters, batteries, mounting systems, DC/AC cable, protection panels, all with manufacturer's warranty through official distributors in Georgia.

Installation

Mounting on clay tile, metal tile, flat roofs or ground racks; DC runs in UV-resistant corrugated conduit; DC/AC panels with surge protection (SPD); earthing.

Connection and setup

Connection to the house electrical panel, inverter configuration for the Energo-Pro grid, priority settings (house → battery → grid), monitoring app on your phone.

Net metering

Microgeneration application, bidirectional meter, connection certificate. We support you until the first credit appears on your bill.

Prices

Solar power system prices

The Georgian market prices systems in US dollars per installed kilowatt; payment in GEL at the exchange rate is possible. The price includes panels, inverter, mounting, cable, electrical panels, installation and commissioning. Battery is extra.

How the work goes

How we install a system

  1. 01Sizing from your bills

Send us photos of a year's worth of bills and of your roof. Within 1–2 days we calculate the system size, output, savings and payback period.

  2. 02Site visit and design

Roof measurement, check of the load-bearing structure and the service entrance, final diagram and estimate.

  3. 03Contract and supply

We fix the price and timeline; equipment arrives on site in 1–3 weeks, depending on stock at warehouses in Tbilisi.

  4. 04Installation in 2–5 days

Mounting, panels, cable runs, electrical panels, inverter, battery. For a 5–10 kW system on a house, 2–3 days.

  5. 05Start-up and registration

Configuration, monitoring, microgeneration application, replacement of the meter with a bidirectional one, first credit.

What to know about roofs in Adjara

Sea winds and heavy rain: we calculate the mounting for wind load and use aluminium rails and stainless steel fasteners; on tiled roofs, roof hooks that keep the waterproofing intact. High humidity: all MC4 connectors and panels are IP65. Salt in the air: panels with a corrosion-resistant frame rating.

FAQ

FAQ — Solar panels and inverters

What is net metering and how does it work in Georgia?

A system of up to 500 kW is connected to the grid, and the meter counts in both directions. Energy fed in during the day is credited against what you use at night. For systems connected before 01.01.2027, this arrangement stays in place until 2033. From 2027, net billing applies: the surplus is bought at a price set by the regulator GNERC, which is lower than the tariff.

Do I need a permit for solar panels?

For microgeneration of up to 100 kW on your own house, no. You only need to apply to Energo-Pro / Telasi for connection and have the meter replaced. For an apartment building, you will need consent to use the roof.

Grid-tie or hybrid?

If power cuts are rare and net metering is available, go grid-tie: it costs 40–50% less. If outages are regular and you need the fridge, boiler, router and lights to keep running during them, choose a hybrid with a 5–10 kWh battery. In Batumi, most clients choose hybrid.

How long do panels and inverters last?

Panels come with a 25-year power output warranty (at least 85% by the end of the term) and in practice last 30+ years. Inverters have a 10-year warranty when registered and a service life of 12–15 years, so expect one replacement over the life of the system. LiFePO4 batteries: 6,000 cycles, about 15 years.

Can my roof take the load?

A panel weighs 25–30 kg; the load is 12–15 kg/m², less than the snow load. We check the rafters and battens during the site visit; for flat roofs, we use ballasted systems with no drilling.

What maintenance is needed?

Clean the panels 1–2 times a year (in Adjara the rain does it for you) and check the monitoring. Once a year, inspect the connections and electrical panels. We can take it on as a service contract.

Can I pay in instalments or take a loan?

Yes. Georgian banks offer green loans under the EBRD GEFF programme, and Produce in Georgia subsidises the interest rate for businesses. We will help you put together the document package for TBC or Bank of Georgia.
